Tracing Remembrance

Tracing Remembrance and Story Telling Ritual – “Our ancestors are always with us.” The red line represents the bloodline that runs through time and generations and is a symbol of community and connection. Shintani organized a tracing community project, inviting participants to pose like some one they wanted to remember, and tracing them red on walls, canvas or glass, depending on the venue. People related memories as helped each other with the tracing. These ancestor drawings held the container for silent walking meditation and storytelling. The project has been performed at Santa Fe Art Institute, Ruth’s Table in San Francisco, Springfield College, MA, and University of Pittsburg.
